    Corporate Training

One of our key organizational goals is support of a skilled and productive workforce for the region. We work towards this goal by helping employers secure grants for a range of training programs, assisting with the application and grant administration process, identifying qualified training professionals, and — in many cases — coordinating the training itself.

Our services include:
  • Training needs assessments to characterize the skill gaps within an organization
  • Coordination of soft skills training programs focusing on leadership, team-building, problem solving, and effective communication
  • Coordination of more technical training programs (e.g., industrial math, statistical process control, lean manufacturing, ISO/Quality training)
  • Grant support from application through the term of the grant, completion and submission of all required tracking and reporting documentation and liaison between company and agency

Project Examples

A training program for McGard/ LD McCauley, a producer of anti-theft devices, featured over 20 courses targeting 120 employees. Training sessions focused on quality assurance, problem solving, effective negotiating, ISO internal auditor training, Pro-Engineer drafting/modeling, ISO implementation training, failure mode and effects analysis, and XML training. Funding was secured for this program from the NYS Department of Labor’s STRAP program.

In 2004, The Center for Industrial Effectiveness (TCIE) helped eight companies secure over $125,000 in safety training grants from the NYS Department of Labor. Grants ranged from $4,000 to $33,000 and paid for courses such as respiratory protection, lockout/tagout, fire safety, bloodborne pathogens, hazard communications, confined space entry, fire safety, respiratory protection, and many others. In 2005, we completed safety training grant applications on behalf of 8 area companies.

For ISG Lackawanna Inc. (formerly Bethlehem Steel’s Galvanized Products Division), our team conducted an assessment of workforce skill gaps. The assessment included extensive interviews, modifications to work instructions and job descriptions, development of skill screening tools, and employee testing. Funding for this assessment was received from Empire State Development.

Grantswriting for Boston Valley Terra Cotta, a producer of architectural ceramic products, successfully secured $214,000 towards the purchase of a new kiln and associated equipment. The grant application was submitted under New York State’s Environmental Investment Program. The new equipment will help dramatically reduce refractory waste.
