Six Sigma is a set of tools that provide an
organization with the ability to improve their work practices and processes
and achieve improved profits. This is accomplished by decreasing the process
variation that ultimately causes poor product quality, defects, and the
associated costs of product rejection, rework, and customer dissatisfaction
and/or lost business.
Six Sigma employs an underlying statistical methodology and the “Define,
Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control” (DMAIC) corrective process.
A formal Six Sigma program utilizes the executive/owner, a champion (i.e.
a plant manager), a Black Belt, and either Green Belts and/or other employees
trained in problem solving processes. |

The Six Sigma Black Belt training takes approximately five months
and consists of five training phases covering DMAIC. All five training
weeks consist of 40 hours of class room training. After each training
week, the participants return to their respective company and apply
the tools and methodologies learned. TCIE’s program provides
on-site project support for each Black Belt candidate during the five
month training period to ensure understanding and application of the
methodology. Each training session begins with a formal review of
the Black Belt candidate's projects. The review consists of a ten-minute
presentation to the Black Belt class and their champions.
