Graduate Student Resources: Spring and Summer 2006

Graduate students from UB Engineering, generally Master's degree candidates, often seek project opportunities with area companies. TCIE has an excellent track record of placing 56 students in positions that afford them valuable learning experiences, but also reap meaningful results for our clients. Graduate students, depending on their course load, are eligible to work up to twenty hours per week when school is in session. this increases for a full 40 hours per week during the summer.

Graduate students are compensated for their work at an hourly rate that is set by the SUNY system. This rate represents a very reasonable cost to companies. Costs may be further reduced by participation in the SPIR program (Strategic Partnership for Industrial Resurgence). TCIE serves as the contracting agent and coordinates all administrative requirements.

Students project candidates are available from all six UB Engineering departments: Industrial Engineering; Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering; Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering; Chemical and Biological Engineering; Computer Science and Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. Recent student project opportunities have included CAD design support, quality assurance, inventory management, website improvements, product development support, design specification tools, and others.

If you would like to discuss an opportunity, please contact Tim Leyh, Director Business Development at TCIE at 716-636-2568 ext. 23.

Note: Undergraduates that have completed their junior year are also eligible to work in area companies through the Engineering Career Institute and Co-Op Program. For more information, visit www.eng-intern.buffalo.edu.
