TCIE provided a full range of services for ISO 9001:2000 implementation for Manitoba Corporation, a scrap metals recycler in Lancaster, New York. Sri Vilayanoor, TCIE Project Engineer, spearheaded service delivery for a quality systems gap assessment, management training, systems documentation and quality manual development, internal auditor training, preassessment audits, and resolution of internally identified compliance gaps.
In November 2003, third party auditors completed a system audit and recommended Manitoba for certification. Significantly, auditors found no major system nonconformances and praised the company,s preparedness.
The most notable short-term impact of the project has been a 53% reduction in costs associated with product nonconformance. Metals recycling is a low margin industry and this boost to the bottom line is significant.
ISO 9001:2000 registration places Manitoba in a select group in the industry. Only 10% of companies in this business are certified to ISO standards.
Company revenues for 2004 represent an estimated $10 million increase over the previous year. This can be partially attributed to streamlined processes, more robust controls, and an enhanced customer focus.
